(Teen Girl Squad anyone?)
Anyway, I started a little competition with myself to see how low I could keep the grocery bill per month. I was doing awesome. There’s an Aldi’s and a Sam’s really close by, and I even planned our meals. I admit I was getting a little overkill about it but not too bad (I would’ve implemented “Ethiopian Cuisine Night” – which means that you eat nothing….)
Well, everything was going well until I let Adeia and Refe come shopping with me. There’s a marketplace next to Aldi’s – the kind of place the sells you 19 varieties of mushrooms and fresh pig head. I thought Refe would like it. And he did. A little too much. We came home with:
- A giant papaya the size of Adeia
- Guavas
- Figs
- Dates
- Several pounds of grapes (Adeia now eats 2lbs a week)
- A CASE of mangos
- Bananas (I opted out of the “case” option here)
- Strawberries
- …and a variety of middle eastern food ingredients (including the sesame seed equivalent of peanut butter)
What I discovered is that Refe and Adeia would prefer to live entirely off of fruit and falafel. So we’re moving somewhere tropical. Come visit
(*Don’t strain yourself trying to comment on this post. I’m bored.)
Here’s a list of items we did not come home with:
- Pig head
- the many armed mushroom Adeia swiped and we found her eating
- Pig heart
- Chicken toes
- Octopus leg (for stroganoff?)
- Digestive system of Goat
- 5lb block of Feta (I wanted it though)
- Kumquats
i love the word falafel.
You’re not missing anything if you try the falafel! Its amazing! It’s vegetarian, but very high in protein.
My food cravings have been thusly:
- V-8 juice, in cans, not the bottles (this is very important)
- clausen dill sandwich sliced ridged pickles (also, brand specific)
- breyers mint chocolate chip icecream (the white icecream, not the green stuff)
- fruit juice popsicles
- tomato soup
Falafel has not been a craving, except for maybe a craving that Aaron, my husband has. It’s still good though.
…You like the WHITE mint chocolate chip?
…You’re sick.
