Guess what? Not only is Adeia cute and adorable, but she can sleep through an eartquake. No, really. We had one last night.
It was about 4:50 am, and I woke up feeling a little seasick. I remember thinking, “What the crap are the upstairs neighbors doing?” and then realizing two things: 1. we don’t have upstairs neighbors, and 2. that the wall behind my head was swaying back and forth. Oh wait, no, the apartment was swaying. Refe then woke up, and wondered aloud what it was. Refe suggested an enormous train. Finally, we settled on earthquake.
Now, I’m a California native, and have lived through earthquakes, so naturally I knew exactly what to do. (What I mean by this is that I was born in CA, lived there probably under a month, and at some point during my mother’s pregnancy there was an earthquake, so technically I was alive) I’m pretty sure that my first instinct was to curl into the fetal position (duh, I was in the womb then) and let the quake rock me to sleep – it was pretty gentle. Afterwards Refe and I tried to figure out if it was some sort of weird dream. Adeia just slept through it, as I’m sure many people did.
Later, I remembered something about tables and doorframes and aftershocks. Really though, it was pretty mild where we live, but it was a 5.something on the scale in downstate Illinois, which is also known as, “non-Chicago.”
Anyway, I’m pretty sure I know why there was an earthquake today: my sister Jennifer turned 18.
Fun fact: On 4/18/1906 there was a huge earthquake in San Francisco
Sure! I’ve actually been casually looking for an appropriate “box” for it, but somehow they’ve hidden all of them since the first time I looked. =) Shoot me the details.
