Soccer Moms Killed the Radio Star

I’d like to review for you a little gem of a compilation album I recently stumbled upon: Soccer Mom Chillout.

“You’ve got the minivan and the checkered sticker, but do you have the tunes to match your soccer mom image?” (asks the iTunes essential team over at Apple.)

There are three separate “albums” to choose from, but a better choice for those on the fast track to trendy might be the Complete Set. Yes, you can own the complete Soccer Mom Chillout Compilation Set for just over $70. The compilation puts many great artists sided by side, such as:

• Sigur Ros
• Imogen Heap
• Christina Aguilara
• Aimee Mann
• Iron and Wine
• Dixie Chicks
• Nick Drake
• Lauryn Hill
• The Corrs
• Rufus Wainwright
• Shania Twain
• …and many more

There’s something a little wrong about this. I’m not elitest or anything. I just think that it’s sort of unfortunate. Kind of like when Chuck Taylors had “made in China” stamped on them. And it’s kind of weird to put Christina and Shania on the same album as Nick Drake and Iron & Wine. On the bright side, it’s amusing to imagine a Lauryn Hill Concert full of Soccer Moms….
